Property overview
North Stonethwaite Cottage is a quite delightful traditional Lakeland cottage which has been thoughtfully and sympathetically refurbished without losing any of its heritage charm.
The lounge and dining area has a cosy wood burner and opens to a Shaker-style kitchen which is fully equipped with a dishwasher, electric oven, hob, fridge/freezer and microwave.
There are two bedrooms – one being a double, the other a twin room – and a shower room, as well as a utility/boot room where you can dry off the outer layers after those notoriously changeable Lake District days.
The cottage has a covered patio to the rear which enjoys wonderful views across the length of the Troutbeck Valley.
The utility/boot room has space to store any wet coats, shoes or boots and leave them to dry. There is also a washer/dryer and a toilet in this room.
If required, the single beds in the twin bedroom can be linked together to form a Super King bed (please note, this must be requested on booking and is subject to an additional charge).
Local area information
North Stonethwaite Cottage really is an ideal ‘get away from it all’ destination and Troutbeck remains something of a hidden gem in the Lake District. Within easy reach of Windermere and Ambleside yet secluded enough not to attract the majority of visitors to the national park.
There are plenty of walks from the doorstep, rewarding you with wonderful views towards Lake Windermere or Kentmere Horseshoe, or from higher vantage points into the Central Lakeland Fells.
Troutbeck has a fabulous café (The Old Post Office Tea Room) which is always very welcome after a walk in the nearby countryside, along with a couple of traditional pubs – The Queen’s Head and The Mortal Man, and a short drive up the valley will take you to the Kirkstone Pass Inn.
Carry on over Kirkstone Pass and you’re heading towards Brotherswater and Ullswater, with the charming villages of Glenridding and Patterdale.
